Matthew Dukes

After nearly two decades in the water hygiene, water treatment, and most recently, facilities management compliance industry, Matthew has a wealth of experience in providing compliance solutions to our clients.

Matthew is a City and Guilds trained Legionella risk assessor, water hygiene, and treatment specialist. As a full member of the Water Management Society, he attends regular industry days and training courses to ensure his knowledge and skills are maintained to the latest guidance and industry best practice.

Starting out as a water hygiene technician carrying out Legionella monitoring tasks, such as temperature monitoring and cold water tank cleaning, his analytical skills were quickly recognised and he began carrying out cooling tower and steam boiler water treatment testing.

Following several years of hands-on experience, Matthew took the next steps and begun undertaking Legionella risk assessments. His firm foundation in monitoring experience enhanced his risk assessing skills and ensured that the reports produced were not only in accordance with all necessary regulations and industry guidance but also based on real world experience and knowledge. He subsequently has been responsible for managing teams of risk assessors, ensuring their competency and undertaking technical reviews of Legionella risk assessment reports prior to issuing to the client.

In his role as an account manager and regional account manager, Matthew specialised in building working relationships with the clients and provided tailored advice and solutions for a full range of water systems. Whether it was a domestic water system, evaporative cooling system or industrial process systems, such as vehicle washes, plasterboard production line and bread coolers, his detailed approach ensured that these systems were operated in a safe and compliant manner.

During various roles, Matthew has developed, written, and presented numerous training courses on Legionella awareness, cooling tower operation, steam boiler treatment, and closed system treatment. These training sessions were delivered either as a general knowledge builder or working with specific clients to tailor to their systems and team requirements.

Following a period of managing Legionella control and facilities management compliance, first for Hampshire County Council and then an international facilities management company on a major utilities contract, Matthew realised that his true passion was in providing risk assessment, audit, and training services to those with facilities management compliance responsibility.

And so Dukes Consulting was established.
